Effects of a shorter barrel on the 10/22?

Been thinking about putting a shorter barrel on my 10/22, and I've been wondering if it could have an effect on the blowback action (too much or too little pressure??)

Also, is there a ''magical'' barrel length that would make most regular ammo subsonic?

No worries at all, my 9" has zero cycling issues due to the short barrel. Ive chamfered the bolt, cut 2 coils off the hammer spring and polished the hammer strut and it will cycle Rem subs just fine. No other polishing whatsoever. You will need hearing protection if you dont shoot with it yet, the muzzle blast is a nice crisp pop and the recoil is a little snappier :) Almost starting to feel like a soft shooting centerfire :D Basically the shorter barrel is cutting the pressure curve short, but not before the bolt has enough momentum to complete its cycle as normal.
