So I was out chronoing yesterday after a failed attempt to make major on Saturday.

I was curious as to how much effect the -8 C temperature would have.

I would hate to have too hot a load in the summer when temps get to +30

My chrony is good to about -12 then the screen starts taking a dive it gets all dark must be the lcd freezing, as for power factor with the ammo though most of my stuff gets touched with a mag primer in the nippy months, have been known to slip a little extra powder in also shoot straight

I imagine it was the difference in the air density as much as anything, but I sighted in my 300 win mag at 500m at 0 deg C. A week later, shot it when it was +20 C and it was hitting a solid 5 inches higher with the same bullet and load. Nothing else was different. I don't own a chroney, so I can't speak for the velocity.

A load I used at 10-15 deg Celcius became quite volitile at 28 C. Of course I know better to do that now :D I suppose that load was on the ragged edge at first. Damn that bolt was hard to open:redface:

P.O Ackley has a good read about in his handbook for shooters and reloaders volume I .

temperatures and density

This could be a great debate. I live in an area where it is usually cold so I use a benchmark of 17degrees, when winter comes around this way which is about 9months of the year I start heading to mag primers and yes have been known to slip a little extra in the case. During these winter months yes I push the envelope the chrony does not lie, if I tried what I am doing in summer months I am sure my pressures would be explosive. I will make note though I do alot of shooting with single shot actions rugers and martinis are my favorite. I hate to tell you my load for the 218K bee in the winter months but leave it as it is right up there with a 223. So where am I going with this yes you can run them hotter in the winter and in some case you may have to run your rig hotter to get it to perform the way you want am I advocating shoving to much stuff in your case no way jose but with a good chrony you can see your pressures rise where as the cases will show no sign what so ever. keep your stick on the ice

I just want to get a head start on loading for the IPSC season..

However what I thought was a "good load" gave ma a pf of only 160

I now have a nice 174 pf but I am afraid thta in June it will be 190!!
