Well, long story short, i completely screwed up the front sight post on my sks tonight.

I was trying to remove the front sight post to install a thinner one, and just went ape scat on it. It wouldn't budge, couldn't fit any tools in the hole in the top of the sight. Busted out the angle grinder and that's when things got real ugly.

SO im in the market for a whole new front sight. Anyone have experience with the trueshot from hical? Does it work with the stock rear sight? Does it work with hicals new peep? Are there any other front sights on the market?

Is it just the threaded post itself that you need, or the whole front sight assembly? If it's just the threaded post I have used the hi viz tapco replacements and haven't had any problems with them.

Well Liberty Tree has sks/AK front sight posts available. The hole through the post is just stress relief as the threaded post is split so it provides tension in the hole. Many places sell the sight tool for 10 to 12 bucks which you usually have to modify to fit properly for adjusting windage. Can't remember where I got my spare front post as I wanted to turn mine down to make it narrower. Worked out well though. I found the plastic coloured ones were not really any better than good old flat black for contrast and visibility. As asked what shape is your front post drum (part post screws into)? These can be bought as well. Marstar has them but no posts at least on the website. you could email them and see if they have any available assuming the web site may or may not be correct. They sell the adjustment tool as well.

Uh did I say angle grinder? I meant uh...dremel.

Damn it..... arright i'll get a buddy to snap a few pictures later on.

Plasticman, good idea on grinding the top of the sight hood down to ak-style. It's almost there already, a little uneven maybe.
Still not sure if i can even get the front sight post out, It was jammed GOOD!

I tried weasel piss, torching the barrel that the post sits in, more weasel piss. The post is split, so i cut it in half hoping to fish out two seperate halves of it. No luck whatsoever. Fackin thing!!

To all those inclined to hurry things along with grinders and torches, let this thread be a warning to you!
You should instead try the old man's way of letting the stuck part soak in a little container of WD40 or your favorite stuff for a few days.

Gotta see some pics. My sight tool is plenty strong, but a paid a few extra bucks for it. Probably worth it considering how many threads I have seen of the cheap ones breaking.

You could just drill and tap a scope mount to the receiver and forget about irons - sounds like you have gone half-bubba already.
