Look for M145. The last one I seen at a gun show was $800.

Will the scope Elcan C79 that’s on the C7A2 hold up on a 7.62 NATO rifle. Ie hold zero etc

Maybe. Depends on the gun. Are we talking MG or a bolt action or an AR10. I suspect it would hold up to the added recoil.

But why would you want to. The C79 sucks as a scope on the C7, a 3.4x scope with tiny field of view on a 7.62 battle rifle would be thoroughly underwhelming.

The C79 has its own unique design. The optics are sealed. Not adjustable for vision. All adjustments for windage and elevation are controlled by the interaction of the optical portion and the base. The optics are spring loaded into place against the bearing surfaces of the base. The tube is shifted mechanically to change point of impact. You can grab the tube and move it against the spring. If the tube shifts ever so slightly against the base - if it doesn't return to exactly the same position after each shot, zero will change.
In the case of the C9, the tube bounces on its base, and the top cover moves on the gun. Hardly a stable sighting arrangement.
I believe the design is now on its 4th generation of base design.
So, will it hold zero on a 7.62?

Be aware the other issue with Elcans with 7.62 BDC is they are setup for M249 and other machine gun 7.62 not semi auto long barrel rifles.

Not the end of the world but I’ve seen guys have a pain in the ass of a time zeroing them and getting them lined up even partially on the BDC.
