Hi all,

I have an Elcan mounted on my AR-15 but I have been having a problem accessing the charging handle due to the clearance between the optic and the handle. I was wondering if the mount for the Elcan came in different heights?
can you get more clearance by using a different style mount?

Sorry if this is a newb question, but I searched high and low and was not abel to figure this one out.

thank you in advance,
Sean

As far as I know you can only use the Elcan mount for this Optic. I never had any problems getting at the charging handle with it. Can you posts pics?

Sounds like you have it too far back. I don't have the aide memoir here so I am going off memory.

-Check your eye relief by shouldering the rifle with your eyes closed so that you get a comfortable, natural feeling cheek weld.

-Open your eye and look through the sight.

-If you don't have a 100% clear view through (IE black areas around the edges), move the sight 1 slot forward.

-Keep doing this until you have full visibility through the sight after re-shouldering it a few times.

-Do Not move your cheek weld to get a better view, keep what you got when you shouldered it with your eyes closed and adjust the sight position instead.

Get an extended charging handle like BCM Gunfighter or PRI Big Latch. I have short eye relief and when forced to use a C79 with a fixed stock, I have to run it at the back of the receiver so I use the PRI.

I was wondering if the mount for the Elcan came in different heights?
No,, only one size of ELCAN mount, so you are stuck with that height. I don't think you would want a higher mount anyway in order to make room for grabbing the charging handle (the optic is already too high IMO).

Your only options are those mentioned above:
- replace the charging handle like Big Red mentions, or
- move the sight forward.

Thank you!

It appears that the best solution for me would be to change charging handle or latch.

I am a lefty shooter(eye dominance) but I am right handed. I have the optic set back on the rail to achieve the correct eye relief and that is a result of the unnatural body language of shouldering my rifle on what my brain thinks is the wrong side! Ha-hA.

So the disaster continues as I reach with my right hand over the weapon to use the charging handle. It sure would be nice if the charging handle latch was on the right side! Someone must make one right?

Long story short I should shoot like the normal people but eye dominance gets the grouping.

Thank you you all for your reply.

Badger ordinance makes an ambidextrous latch. I have not used one but maybe someone here could give some insight.
