I'd like to add a red dot sight to my Elcan Specter 4 but I'm having a heckuva time figuring out what is compatible with the Elcan MRD mounting plate. The Docter series of red dots are compatible, but I'm not able to find a Doctersight III in the country (Rampart, for example, is sold out). I've seen posts about people using the Burris Fastfire II series, but needing to source different screws. I have no idea if the Burris FF3 is compatible. So, does anyone use a red dot on top of their Elcan Specter 4x or DR? Any recommendations?

Thanks,

The Burris FF3 & Vortex red dots work with the Elcan mounting plate and yes you need new screws. I used the ones that mount drives to computer cases, shot with a Burris FF3 for years without any problems. I recently replaced mine with a Docter sight, initially wanted to get a Trijicon MRO but the mount on that is completely different and not compatible.

Thanks Colin! Between the Burris FF3 and the Docter, which do you prefer? Which model of the Docter?

And yes Ottawa, Elcan is awesome!

I made a mistake with my FF3 and picked up the 8 MOA model, up close it doesn't really matter but the dot was just too big, I ended up getting a Docter II Plus over the holidays, I was going to buy the III but I didn't like the magnet thing as I'm pretty bad at losing caps and they didn't have the colour I wanted. Yes I'm vain but my SpecterDR is tan/brownish and the bronze matches better lol.
