SHOT Show – Elite Defense Debuts Specter Holographic Combat Optic by Elcan
This is really big news. Elite Defense is now representing the Specter line of optics from Elcan and they’re debuting a pre-production version of the Specter, Holographic Combat Optic.

They advertise 1200 hours on nominal setting (12 daytime, 3 NVG) from a cross mounted CR123A. it offers a latger field of view than its closest competitor and is manufactired from an aluminum housing for strength. It features a solid state optical path and Elcan has conducted exhaustive testing to ensure the is no thermal drift up to the design target range of -40 to 160 deg F. The are no moving parts in the optical path so there is no room for moisture incursion. There are two reticle options, 72 MOA circle with 1 MOA dot as well as just a 1 MOA dot.

The Specter HCO begins shipping in May.

That first comment on the article though....

I know it’s just an opinion, and the sight might be the bomb, but holy hell is that fugly. Looks like it has a pair of balls in front.

With my love for the Specter line of optics from Elcan, I am sure one of these will find its way onto something of mine, but right now I am still focused on getting a Specter TR 1/3/9x to go beside my 4 Specter DR 1/4x's. Im going to be broke soon. Lol

Aren't all Elcan optics ugly and bulky though? I wouldn't expect different.
Stepping up for an eotech replacement for the US military perhaps? Doesn't really do anything for me though.

Im game to try simply because any Elcan Specter optics I have tried never left me wanting more, and always have reliabilty and function as top priorities.

I personally like the aesthetics of the 1/4 DR's, but hate the 1.5/6 DR. Looks are preferance based and dontvdo much in terms of features so its kind of mute anyways...

This new HCO reminds me of the Batmobile... lol

Good find! Kinda not liking the brightness button(s)/configuration on the left (as shown on the soldiersystem website) and I didn't see a NVG button on the pre-production sample - unless that isn't a screw on the back. Strange that this isn't labeled as a "prototype" as it looks rough, and typically pre-production are supposed to be ready for primetime while the operation for mainstream production hasn't gone into full swing yet. Also not too sure if the 75 moa circle is going to be a little too large, as the 65 on the eotech really is the "sweet spot".

They have a competitor (of sorts, especially in aesthetics, though it isn't holographic) this year though with the Hartman: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/10/29/just-announced-hartman-optics-mh1-reflex-sight/

They told me the current display unit is a prototype and the design/appearance is not final. It will be released end of Spring 2016 with MSRP of $799USD.

The electronics are not made by Elcan btw.

I think the 72 moa is to sort of estimate range, 72" is 6' so a 6' tall man would fit in the circle at 100 meters. Just a guess though

I thought batman didn't use guns. I don't want to catch sharp edges on my face/eyes while shooting. chatter marks on there. The ugly finish didn't mask it well. Another victim of over designing and under built. 800 bones? As with all elcan optics products, the price doesn't make sense. I'll avoid unless it can prove to be worth it.
