Hi all,

I just purchased a NIB Elcan scope. I believe it is early vintage.
The serial number is ELC-90-00343.
The reason I am posting this is that it does not have the fixed rubber style "iron sights"or the quick acquisition sights on the rubber armour. Is this an indication of the earlier release units?
The Tritium no longer glows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you for looking!

I have seen used Elcan C79 scopes like yours where those sad excuses for a backup sight moulded into the rubber armour have cracked off. Some crack off so cleanly it looks as if they were never there. UV eventually makes the rubber armour brittle. I had the pleasure of using the Elcan lots when I was in the army and those little moulded sights were worse than useless.

His bitterness is no exageration.

I wouldnt worry about the nubs.

And I havent seen a C79 sight that glows in years.

In fact, I had our FCS tech order some to replace the light source in mine.

3 new ones from the national supply level.

none of them glowed.

I would expect better from a civilian store though.
Just make sure its not just the ambient light masking the glow.

You really have to be in pitch blackness to see it, and your eyes may need a moment in the darkness to asjust.

I forsee you in the bathroom with the lights off staring intently through your ARs sight at nothingness.

Hopefully you see that faint triangle show up.

I believe Armament technology in Halifax Replaced tritium ( http://w ww.armament.com/

BUT IIRC it can't be surplus. You have to prove it isn't, which is hard to do (receipts).

IMO on an older model especially it's an expensive inessentiality.
