I used the 162gr eldx factory loads in my .280ai for moose this year. Like an idiot I got excited and shot my tiny little bull in the shoulder at 30 ft. He didn't even flinch. Being more of an idiot I repeated the mistake, three times. Finally he started to walk away and I remembered the vitals aren't hidden in the shoulder muscles, so I put one through the lungs. He dropped right there. When I peeled him i saw that only 1 of the idiot shots actually penetrated- shattering the scapula and disintegrating. The other 3 shots grenaded on impact without fully penetrating the hide.
Has anyone else experienced performance like this?
Am I expecting more out of the ammo than it can give?
Should I start reloading with accubonds/partitions?
I only use this stuff as my kimber will put 5 rounds of it into one ragged hole. I'm not attached to it in any way
