Looking for advice on an e caller, looking at the $200-$300 range. Primos has a "Big Dogg" for $100, then there is a Foxpro Spitfire for $220, and a Wildfire for $230. I am green to this type of hunting, appreciate helpful advice. Was thinking coyotes in S Ontario. Also, can you call Whitetail deer with one?
Thx

Not exactly an answer to your question, but, if you are "green" to calling predators, I suggest you invest far less in a couple of mouth blown calls and go give it a try before you spend lots of money (and I think it is just unnecessary money too) on stuff you may well find you don't need.

I and my friends don't use electronic calls, mostly because we walk lots when we hunt and don't want to carry stuff. Electronic calls work, but so do mouth blown calls. We also use grunt and doe calls to call white tails, but they are very different sounds, done in very different ways and locations. We have had deer "investigate" a few times when calling predators, but predator calls would never be deliberate choices for calling bucks.

You can't go wrong with FoxPro...excellent products and customer service is #1. Yes you can use them to call deer, moose etc, as well as coyotes, fox, crow...just not turkey or migratory birds.

Find a Hellfire at that price range. Watch th EE for a used one. That's what I did. They work great, if you don't like the unit, flog on the EE again.
Cheers
Geoff

FoxPro is the way to go. I use mine all year, it does a great job on coyotes, lots of options for sounds. I like to make my own on hand calls and load them on to the unit.
In the fall I have used deer calls with great success. One sequence I have is a buck fight, stomping, rattling, granting, sparring.. Right sound at the right time makes for some entertainment! But as mentioned, no turkeys or waterfowl.
The units are not small, so some hand calls are handy too. I hunt coyotes almost daily, the FoxPro can draw in the weary dogs at times hand calls can't. Give a major advantage in situations where the wind or cover isn't ideal.
Hunted coyotes for a living for almost 20 years, best investment I have ever made.

Its not impossible to call in Coyotes with hand calls. Matter of fact it can be easy if they are close by , but if you can sit and call every 2 -3 minutes for 2 minutes long for 25-30 minutes all the time ,your a damn Wind Bag and a bull ####ter.

I work in the game call industry and use hand calls all the time. I can not do it - sorry But I'm also not scared to show my track record in Success using these such calls electric or hand calls.

Spend the extra money and but quality in the first place. Also have hand calls because they do work with electronic calls too...

Please, voice your opinion. We are all adults here.
Thx

I have a Foxpro wildfire 2 and it worked great for coyotes last winter. I have never used mouth or hand calls so can't comment on those. And the previous comment about not being able to use it for migratory birds is incorrect. I have used it for snows the past 2 falls and it has worked great.

I stand corrected. As per the regulations, in WMU 65, recorded bird sounds are legal to use when hunting Snow geese, during the special spring season. A very narrow window to use electronic calls.

Yes I should have specified where, when, and hunting what. In Sask it is legal in the fall season (probably spring too, im not sure as I've never hunted spring snows) to hunt snows with an e caller so long as you don't have any Canadas in your spread. I have used, or hunted with others who were using, various ecallers on snows in the fall season for the past ~8 years.

DIdn't I see the Fury 2 on sale for $299 not long ago??

I paid like $499 for mine when it first came out. No complaints, That call is loud enough for 50km/h winds blowing away from the bush. Holds 200 sounds (I have 135 on mine and use maybe 20-30?))

remote range is great, I can get 100 yards no problem if clear sight to the caller, Never place it that far unless at my bait pile. I keep my coyote decoy and caller out on top of a hill about 100 yards from me and 100 yards from the bait. I have got many coyotes that just come out for a look.

I used some other ones don't waste your money
Get the fox pro and ur set forever
It works like a charm
But being stealthier then the cayots is a whole other story
