I'm thinking of getting a digtal scale/automatic powder dispenser unit. Of the three RCBS 1500, Lyman DSP III, or PACT, which one would be the best ? Any ideas on their dispensing speeds as well ?
Try this out. http://www.6mmbr.com/powderdispensers01.html
My RCBS takes 26 seconds for 80 grain charges, small charges are much faster. Pact actually makes the RCBS, but there are still differences. Natchez has the best price I've found.
I have the Lyman, and it works great. By the time that I have my bullet seated, the scale has filled another case for me. Charge accuracy is excellent, as checked on a RCBS 505. 1/2 hour warm up, and you are good to go.
I put a chargemaster combo side by side with a Lyman 1200 and watched for repeatability, and time to reload. The powders I used at the time were varget and rl22. The chargemaster was faster and about as precise as the lyman. The chargemaster became more precise when I did the straw mod, or allowed the weight/delay/weigh cycle of the chargemaster to complete.
I do not recommend using either of them while capping though. At least if you are looking for precision loads over fast reloads. The stroke of the reloading handle can easily throw the digital scales off.
I'll also recommend the RCBS Chargemaster. The largest round I reload for is the 30-06 and like what was posted above it throws the powder about as fast as I can seat the bullet.
