My RCBS 505 scale is getting a bit touchy and ready to go back for service. It is time to get a backup scale and I think perhaps it is time to invest into an electronic scale.

The Chagemaster 1500 and Rangemaster 750 come into mind. Please help me to decide:

1) How often does one measure above 750 gr? 750 should be able to measure brass weights.
2) Any other reason to buy the 1500 if you don’t need the upgrade feature to an automated powder dispensing system.
3) Are there another brands that I should consider?

Please advise...

Danny

Hi Danny Boy...I bought a 1500 Chargemaster last summer while on holidays in the states. My only reason for choosing it was to have the ability to add the powder dispencer to it after, if I so choose to, which I decided to do late last fall. I have never needed to weigh any thing near 1500 grns, but for the $100 difference in price you have to decide if its worth it to have the capibility to weigh the extra 750 grns. Also the 750 can be used on a battery, away from a power source, which the 1500 can't. I think it comes down to personal choice and what you are willing to spend. The Pact systems have a good rep too.I've never been a Lyman fan so can't coment on them....Ken

Give the Dillon terminator scale alook, I read some good reviews about it. I picked up mine on Ebay "used". The guy checked the powder drop on his 1050 once is awhile. It was brand new.

I don't know why you wouldn't want the compatibility with the Chargemaster Dispenser

I have a ton of reloading ( shotsheel / pistol / file / progressive / singestage ) gear since I'm a gadget junky and the best invesment I have ever made is a RCBS Powerdermaster and Power Pro ( predecessor to the new Chargmaster dispenser and 1500 scale ...made by PACT )

One of the most monotonus jobs is trickling powder. I just punch in the grains and the dispenser humms away until its done . By the time I seat the bullet the dispenser is usually done with the next charge

Well worth the investment
