Has anybody out there encountered either an 11-gauge muzzleloading gun, or an 11-gauge cartridge gun? Or do I have the only ones left. Can't be. There have to be more.

What about cartridges? Anybody have the dimensions?

Muzzle loading guns were bored to many guages and 11 guage would not be surpirsing. 11 guage cartridge guns however are a different story. An 11 g gun is probably chambered for 10 guage shells and bored 11 guage because the maker felt that would give the best pattern. I would actually expect the barrel to be stamped something like 11 B(reach) 13 M(uzzle).
I have owned several 12 guage guns stamped 13B 15M but that does not imply they are not 12 guage shotguns.

Thanks for the reply, mooncon.

Yeah, I have a couple, one being a long fowler I picked up on the East Cast quite a few years ago: 46-inch tube, octagon to 16-sided, wedding band, tapered round, definitely an 11-bore and marked as such.

The other is much stranger: a W&C Scott, London, double hammer gun, marked as 11 both barrels, a 12 shell almost falls through the bore but a 10 is too fat to fit. Wrote to the factory many years ago, they said that they thought they made it about 1870 but that their records were destroyed in the firebombing in Wat Two. Gun is marked as "Special Grade" and the makers are called "Makers and Patentees". Gun is fully engraved, nice dogs' heads on the locks, rose and scroll everywhere else. I am not sure if it would qualify as a "Best" gun, but it is definitely very good grade.

I got this gun when I was still in highschool, as I was looking for a 10-bore and this was what came up at the hardware store. I put my $10 in the pot, my Dad added in $5 and we took it home, discovered that my nice new 10 shells would not fit, started asking questions.

Still asking questions, for that matter. Any ideas?
