Im looking at trying these for gophers and rabbits and am wondering what seems to be the more better of the 2? Im looking at specifically the HV HP ammo? My Rimfires shoot extremely well with SK standard Plus, never tried any Eley.

Cheers!!

If you’ve done much 22 shooting, you’ll know every rifle will prefer a particular brand of ammo to others. Test the different makes and record the results.

I tried everything I could get my hands on when I was setting up my gopher gun. (CZ452 Varmint, 22LR) Fortunately, the CZ showed a strong liking for CCI Blazer 22. (never got to any match-grade HV) Only problem with that economy ammo is that they're solids, not HPs. Bowls over gophers just fine, but I wanted HPs. (you get some crawl-aways with solids) I bought a Waltz kit (Neal B Waltz) for my reloading press and now I custom make CCI Blazer HPs. Boy does that lay a good smack-down on them, an audible "pop" sound on impact...and a partially rearranged, dead gopher. Not HMR-like effect...but not typical 22HP effect either. :)

I've been asking myself the same question as I contemplate bringing my new Anschutz out west, as I haven't run too much garden-variety 22 through it yet. Mostly caviar-grade. :) A buddy who bought the same gun told me he got some good results with Winchester Super X. Going to test that out myself.

I guess it's a question of economy too~if it's not high-volume gopher action..then anything goes. If you have numbers to contend with, I'd be reluctant to pour too much into match grade 22 if it's creeping towards HMR ammo costs. In any case, I always let my 22s tell ME what they like...so I keep a very wide selection of ammo types on hand for that purpose...then try to bulk-up on the winners.

I've had good results with SK HV, haven't tried the Eley though. I have tried various match grades of Eley, but they were never "the best" for any of my rifles. The SK runs $81.50 per brick so $8.15 per box/50, not too bad, but curiously more expensive than the SV loads (I guess more powder.....). As always, the preference of your individual rifle will vary, and each lot of ammo will likely perform differently than the previous. All that can really be said is "Buy it, and try it". The rifle will let you know what to use.

Yeah what make or rifle are we talking about? I picked up some expensive match eley ammo last year and the primers failed to ignite 20 of 50 rounds on average per box i tried. I rarely get 5 out of 500 in the Remington and maybe 1 or 2 from the fed gold match stuff. I personally hate eley ammo but maybe its my 22s.
I would be very surprised if it was the fault of the ammo, more likely to be your gun. I have shot a lot of all the top target ammos, Eley included, and FTF were almost unknown. Now ,Winchester and Remington 22 ammo really are ‘less than perfect’ Federal is, in my opinion, the best American made 22 ammo. JMHO

Are there any shops that sell match ammo and have free shipping over $300? I messaged Nordic and shipping for 3 bricks was $75...ouch.

Ouch. Doubt you'll find a free shipping deal on ammo here in Canada, it has to be couriered. A case of ammo (10 bricks) was $44 in shipping from Hirsch Precision, but they don't have SK HV in stock (but pretty much every other variety of SK...)
