Hi All,

I purchased a gun off a local guy here and ended up buying a bunch of ammo. (Mainly 22lr)
In the batch is a 500 Pack of older Orange / reddish boxes of Eley Tenex. How good is this stuff and is it worth what it find the new stuff to be on line? ($19-$24 a box of 50) or are those prices because of the 22 availability in the states? I can't seem to find the same stuff here in Canada.

Thanks in advance.

dont listen to Shabazz.
he is clearly lieing to you.

TENEX is actually an explosive 22 ammunition that is prohibited.
it would be best if you would send it to me as im the zone rep for the destruction of it for up here, you pay shipping of course.

Thanks guys,

Is the older stuff collectable? The case box has some wear on it but the inside individual boxes are in perfect shape - I will try to post some pics later - I also received some whiz-bang 22lr shot shells and some other old CIL stuff.

The Whiz-Bangs and older CIL stuff will see the biggest appreciation in collector value. The best values are for pristine packages. Orange box Tenex best value is for shooting when you consider that brick equivalent value in modern ammo is about $200
It's likely you will not realize $20/box for it. And with only 1 brick it's hardly worth playing with for a target shooter. Why would they when they can get fresh ammo for that $$ ?
Either trade it off or shoot it off!

the thing that makes the high end 22 ammo a desired ammo is that you can get a couple boxes of it and find which ammo runs good in your rig.
then you can order up 2000+ rounds of that particular batch.

so unfortunately with selling yours no one who is high end shooting is gonna want it because they can not tune their rifle for it because they cant secure more of that batch.

so at best your stuff is only for high end plinking.

and like mentioned above wiz bang is pretty much the only ones collected for collection's sake.

I agree, it's good but it really comes down to what works well in your FA and Tenex isn't always the show pony.

I have heard some rifles don't like Tenex and a friend of mine had better groups with his Mauser 201 using Eley Club and Team. The major issue is it's price, but you get what you pay for!

Well ill tell you have had no luck with my old Orange boxed Ten X in any of my target guns or custom rifles at all? I have 8 or so bricks I got a deal on a bunch of years ago, only shot of less than brick in that time in testing new rifles out hoping one of them would work really well! Also got a brick RWS50 that has proved to be disappointing in all the rifles period !
I know the Ten X work really well in the CIL 180/190's though, only rifle I don't own any longer .
I friend gave me 2 box's of Lapua Champion that were the most accurate I ever shot in my custom Cooper period, now I wish I could find a few bricks of this old blue/red box small bore ammo:)

Cheers Dale Z

So if you saw a brick of Tenex for $125 you wouldn't buy it? High end guys surely do have all of their ammo but lots of guys with CZ rifles would pay 125 for that brick maybe more.FS

Eley, typically works very well in annies. Shoot it in your annie when shooting for accuracy. Its not collectable.

Actually FS, even $125 a brick is too high for ammo that is an unknown quantity as far as performance. Lapua CentreX in all the batches I've shot recently will hold the 10 on an ISSF 50m - that is under 3/8". It's $11/box for new ammo. Unless I had an opportunity to test I'd put it at $80 or $90 a brick.
Recent batches of Eley black are also doing really well for not much more than $125/brick.
