Bought a used Elite 6500 4.5-30X50 form a fellow CGN'r a month ago. Finally found the time to go shoot today and I was disapponted with the clarity of the scope. Have a couple 4200's and find the clarity excellent and that's why I bought the 6500. Had the 6500, a 4200 2.5-10X40, and Burris FFII 3-9X40 out today and even at 9 power the 6500 seemed to have the worst clarity. Any ideas why this could be? Before anyone suggests I did adjusted the side parallex and the ocular lens.

I have cleaned the lenses with Zeiss lens cleaning wipes so they should be clean but I didn't have any with me today. I guess that could be the problem...but don't think so.

Hate to ask, but how clean are the lenses?
Ziess makes a lense cleaning kit.
Could be a film build up?

I bought a lense cleaning pen.
Funny little gizmo.
Has a soft brush on one end to wipe/brush away dust and such.
On the other end is a cap you twist and remove.
This will expose a suction cup sort of affair.
I was skeptical at first and used it on one of my not so high end scopes.
It polished/cleaned the lenses surprisinly so.
The 4200 Elite here was a bit hazy or not as clear as I had hoped.
It did clean this scope up nicely.
I now use this unit on all my scopes.
Even my eye glasses.
I have noticed it does make a big difference.
Cheers.

It is call the Leupold Lens Pen, it cost 9.00, great tool to have, i use it all the time... JP.

The one I bought is made by Gemini.
It's called a Lens Pen.
The brush is retractable and is super soft.
I wiped one of my scopes with a cleanex and I couldn't believe
the fluff left behind. It showed up on the photos of a rifle I was
trying to sell. I figured the photo wouldn't impress anyone and trying
to explain the fluff wouldn't pan out very well.
This little brush removed all the fluff.
I have used it on my glasses and this proved to me how well this little
trinket works.
The glass/lense needs to be dry though.
Del Selin put me on to this trinket.
Nine loonies and some kibble.
Hope this clears up your Bushnell lenses.
If so, let us know........
Cheers.
Looky.

The lens pen is a great tool to have. I carry one in my pack everytime i go hunting. Great for touching up the lenses on scopes and binos after collecting dirt and grime from a long day of hunting.

I quit buying Bushnell stuffs 2 years ago... to many issues, but i did discover very good ones like Sightron, Redfield, Burris very good quality for the money... JP.

I know exactly how you feel. I had a elite 6500 4-30 that I ended up selling. I think there are two reason why these scopes have such poor clarity. First, they have a high magnification ration 7.5 vs a typical 4. Secondly the length of these scopes are short - 14". The light is really being bent hard in these scopes which is why you end up getting chromatic abberatians (purple fringing) and general crappy quality. I'm looking for a new scope now, and I"m going to make sure that magnification is not greater than 4 (looking at getting a 6-24x) and the overall length is "long".
