Hi guys,

Al the gunnut here. I just bought a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5X30X50 to go over my Remington VLS in .243

I know rifles, I know scopes, but when it comes to rings, I don't know much. Millet> bad. Badger ordinance > good. Right?

I'm looking for quality rings and bases (30mm) for about 150$. Any ideas?

Oh, and with the heavy bbl. and the 50mm objective, I'll have to go to medium rings right?

Thanks,

Alex

Leupold rings and bases are good. With the 50mm you MIGHT get away with mediums, you may need high rings though.

I hate turn-in bases and rings. Gimme a weaver or picatinny rail any day. It makes it much easier to swap optics between your rifles if they all share compatible mounts.

As far as rings you, you don't need to spend $150 for a top shelf product. The Burris Signature rings are superb, as are their 'tactical' rings if you prefer that look. As far as the Signature's go, the self-aligning plastic inserts are fantastic. They reduce stresses on your scope, and there's no metal-on-metal contact to scratch or ding your tube. And there's a lot of surface area between scope and rings to ensure no slippage. And, you can get offset rings to add extra elevation, and optically center the windage (particularly useful if the bases aren't perfectly aligned - it's actually quite common for the holes in the action to be less-than-perfectly aligned.

Check the rings a.s.a.p. , take the rifle with you if you can.
i've found that rings are like womens shoes, one persons med. is totally different from anothers.
