Elite 6500 Scope

To do what?

The Elite scopes are ..alright, but I am not impressed with their huge reticles that obliterate too much of the tiny targets I shoot at, they also lack reticles specifically for target shooting, and I find them to be mediocre for contrast and clarity.

Sightron, Leupold and Nightforce are far better scopes in my mind.

I'm not as experienced a competition guy as Ian, but I do agree that the Elite series are less than idea for competitive shooting due to the thickness of the reticle which can somewhat obscure the target. I have the 6500 series and 4200 series on a number of rifles and as far as glass clarity and repeatability is concerned I am happy with them ( IMO the 6500 doesn't really give you anything over the 4200 though ) and consider them to be a good buy. I also run a NF NXS which is certainly a better scope re clarity and contrast - though at twice the price of the most expensive Elite it really ought to be !

I have both the 6500 4.5-30 and the Sightron 10-50x60. For precision target shooting the Sightron gets the nod because of the fine reticle and target dot ( and better glass ). For tactical shooting ( movers) or at dawn/dusk I would use the 6500 because the reticle, being thicker and with hash marks is easier to see and more useful for leading targets. The fine reticle in the Sightron can disappear when it gets too dark, even though you can still see the target.

Thanks for the responses. I have a Elite 6500 tactical 4.5x30 on the way. It will be on a Tikka Varmint in 6.5x55, will be used for target, plinking and some hunting.

The Bushnells don't have a heck of a lot of elevation adjustment so usually you'll have to get a 20 moa base if you are planning to do some long range shooting. I believe the bushnells are limited to about 50moa of elevation.
In general, Sightrons, NF, and Leupold Mark 4's usually have quite a bit more elevation adjusment, with some exceptions.

+1 the 3200 is insanely huge. The 4200 and 6500 are not that bad tho.

The NF NSX is pretty sick with the hollow mil dots. God i would love one... but ide end up single. ,,,,, almost worth it lol.

I've always run tactical 4200's for my rifles. I'm not a BR comp guy, just a target shooter and hunter. Bushnell's tactical lines are by far best value for the money. Excellent glass, open target turrets, one piece body, and excellent Canadian support.

Good Luck

I have a NXS 5.5-22x56 and a 6500 4.5-30x50. There is nothing wrong with the optics on the 6500 as long as you stay below 20x. Once you creep over 20x the optics get very poor fast. The mechanicals on the 6500 are very repeatable....just as repeatable as my NXS. The 6500 clicks aren't as pronounced as the NXS but that really doesn't matter for the average shooter. So, in a nut shell, the optics between my NXS and 6500 are similar and so is the repeatability of the adjustments....not too shabby for a scope that costs roughly a $1000 less then the NF. The only down side to the 6500 is the lack of elevation adjustment. On a 308 you will need a 20 moa base to hit a target at 1000 yards....keep that in mind.

thanks, the base will be compatable with the trajectory of the 6.5x55. it is good to hear that the scope is as repeatable as the best, this is as important to me as clarity of optics.

Elite 6500 tactical 4.5x30
I bought one of these scopes for a really good price. The clarity is not up to par with my similar powered 4200 and the turrets are pretty stiff. The clicks on my 2 6500's are very repeatable where as the 4200's have backlash that takes some getting used to. A Leupold 10moa base and Burris Signature rings eliminate any short comings in elevation adjustment on my rig. I think the 6500 is a really sharp looking scope too. I'm happy with the scope for what I paid for it but would have been a little disappointed if I paid full price, tax and shipping...JMHO

And this is why I am so pumped on the sightrons.

8-32 - 75 mins of adjustment, amazing optics, tons of eye relief, bang on tracking, easy to use focus and more reticle options in the spring.

I think you will be very happy with the 6500 4.5-30, esp. for your stated purposes, I have a couple of them and am very happy, as well as 2.5-16 which is great as well.

I have a 6500 4.5-30-50mm and a VX-3 Leupold 6.5-20x50mm and the Bushnell whoops the Leupold's ass in every way.

I will agree the reticle is slightly large for extreme distance on smallish targets but I have had no problems using it out to 800yds while shooting at my 10" AR500 gong.

6500 vs NXS is Apples vs Oranges if you got the cash for NXS then why even look at the 6500?.
