Arrowed Elk Friday at 5 p.m.

Was a satellite 5x5 that took me by surprise as I was calling to Herd Bull who was with a cow. He made one short bugle/moan.(of course I wasnt ready and didn't have an arrow nocked!, good thing I was sitting on a log with some small grass and shrubs partially concealing my movements to get an arrow nocked and get ready to draw.

Broadside Shot @40 yards was a little further back than I liked and ended up taking him 250 yards to die.

3rd Archery Elk in 5 years so I am pretty stoked about that.

Congratulations!!

That is an awesome accomplishment.

The adrenaline rush of having a bull elk present himself at 40 yards (close enough to hear him breathe) is extremely intimate and probably impossible to describe to a non-hunter.

What sort of broadheads were you using?

I was going to use Anihilators 150 XL but could only them slightly shaving sharp.... they would. not pop a rubber band ran along the edge.

I had some G5 Stryker Mag 125grs which are really scary sharp, trouble is I am sure only 1 blade struck rib on entry, and being the blade angle is quite steep the arrow deflected off the ribband angled back through the diaphragm....changing a straight liver shot into an arrow that cut some of guts.

Still lethal as hell....but not pretty.

Congrats!! Was this a draw tag or OTC?

Cheers!!

Regular Archery Elk season in Sask. Aug.25-Sept.9.

Big help this season.

High Stumpage Fees kept Weyerhaeuser from logging, SERM had the gates all closed until Archery Opened for Bear and Elk.

2 Years ago (we camp at a BIRM) I picked up 24 legs, mostly moose but some Elk, 1st Nations hunt ALL Summer.

So this year they had gates all closed so only quads could get in, and 1 gate is on a bridge on steep banked river, so you would have trouble getting ATV in.
