A co-worker and I went for a quick morning hunt for elk & moose today out where we work. The moose were a complete no-show but we did have two cow elk hang around for a bit. Since the season for antlerless elk goes to the end of Oct. around here this year, we're holding out for a couple respectable bulls for as long as we can resist the nearly over powering urge to bust a primer and fill the freezer. While calling for elk in one of our setups, the coyotes just wouldn't shut up. After a while, I had enough of those yodel dogs and switched to predator calling with a diaphram call. That brought on even more howls far & wide but for one over-zealous pup of the year it was an invitation he found irrestable. Chaulk up one less deer threat this winter and the start of my annual predator control efforts. As I learned during deer season last November, the application of a 140gr Accubond to a coyote's chest area launched from a .270WSM at full velocity is not a fur friendly round

We're heading out again Sunday so with a little luck...
