Elk hunt this fall

Hello,
Reomack from the lower 48 here. I am going to Montana this September to hunt elk. I am 75 years old and this is my first ever elk hunt, a bucket list item for me. I am taking two rifles, a very early Savage 110 in 338 win mag and a Remington 700 in 7mm Mag. My question is about the 7mm. What do you experienced elk hunters shooting 7mm Mag use for bullets in your handloaded ammunition. Thanks in advance.

I have only ever shot one elk and it was with a 150gr partition in 7 RM (with a borrowed rifle to boot)..... was using Nosler ammunition, didn't reload at the time.....

Take my single experience for what it's worth, but that elk died quick and I have gravitated to partitions and accubonds ever since......

More importantly, congrats on your hunt..... Life is short and nobody gets out alive.... I did my hunt in Colorado, and while my elk would not be considered a great trophy to many, it certainly was to me......

i guided 4 guys from Wyoming. they were very experienced elk hunters and guides and they all used a 7mm rem mag with 160 grains nosler partition ... needless to say it worked great on caribous and black bears ..

Cooking up a 160 grain accubond load for this year's elk hunt rifle, also using a .338 as backup/brush rifle. Good to see it getting the nod from experienced members.
