ELK POACHING INCIDENT

Jasper National Park of Canada

Sometime between the late evening of Wednesday Oct 18 and early morning Thursday Oct 19 a trophy bull elk was poached along Highway 16 near Talbot Lake. Park Wardens have completed their scene investigation and are continuing to investigate.

Parks Canada is seeking the public's help in obtaining information related to this incident. If you were travelling on Highway 16 by Talbot Lake between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, and you observed any unusual or suspicious activity, please contact Jasper National Park at (780) 852-6155.

Note:
Elk are protected under the Canada National Parks Act and the hunting or removal of wildlife or wildlife parts from the park is illegal and considered a serious offense. The Canada National Parks Act penalties for this offense can reach $100,000 and/or 5 years in jail.

X2, I hate hearing about these people. They are the one that ruin it for everyone else.
 
Wonder how they know it was poached rather than hit by a vehicle and taken advantage of ?

Just curious. We almost hit a big bugger going into the park in the dark, Labour Day weekend. Didn't see it untill it was about 15' in front of the truck, just off to the side. Was following a transport. It was crossing the outside line of the road, heading across.
