Enfield butt plate question

the rubber but pad was not for shooter comfort, the No5 was a shortened and lightened rifle for commandoes and airborne forces, the rubber pads were to protect the aircraft.

as above not interchangeable between the No4 and No5

I've handled several thousand, and sometimes your #4 butt can use a MK III buttplate and vise versa. On the buttstock of #1 Mk III the top tip or tang inlet is narrow and ends in a rounded point. The #4 is more wider here and rounder. Also any pile of used buttplates are often a plie of many different lengths and widths, modified over time.

No.5 has the rubber recoil pad. Really hard and small area. Likely increases recoil if the truth were known.
Calling it a recoil pad is generous. Frozen puck is a better description.
Whoever designed the thing ought to spend the rest of eternity shooting the #5 .
