Didn't find too much info with the search function, so I thought I would just ask. I have a civilian version EAL in near mint condition with the original parker hale scope mount (unfortunately not the tasco scope). I am contemplating putting it up for sale. What kind of a price range do these seem to get? Much of a demand for them? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

P1, so far as I know, civi EALs didn't come D&Ted. Yours is the first I've heard of if it is a factory done job.
Military EALs were done and though not common there are several around.

I have seen them done and had after market mounts and scopes added though.

If yours is original and it may very well be, it is a rare beast indeed. Anything is possible with EALs. There are rumors, unsubstantiated, that EAL would make up rifles on specific orders from private individuals. I certainly don't know and as all records have been lost or destroyed, it's anyone's guess.

A decent civilian EAL, in the condition you suggest yours is in, would go for around $500 to a collector. The milspec version is in the same range, maybe 10% more.

The D&T will detract from the value, if it can't be substantiated as original factory manufacture.

There is a knowledgeable member here that goes by the handle of "Wheaty". He dealt with a lot of them in the military. He's a nice guy, contact him by personal message and he will tell you what he knows or put you onto someone that does. Pictures would really make things much easier.

As long as it's the regular PH mount that is often seen on EAL's, it is probably original.
3 holes in a row, including holes through the s/n?

Has to be worth $500. Most just have the holes with no mount.

Put some pics up or email em to me and I'll put em up for you.

It is the 3 holes in a row, and yes they go right through the s/n. Thanks for all the replies!

Here are pics of both EAL versions with the 3 holes.

I'd be surprised if the govt. didn't also buy the earlier version.

I'd really love to know who all bought EAL's, how many were privately bought, how many govt?

BTW, I've heard that those PH scope mounts were crap, too flexible and the screws tended to come loose.

(note that the rifle in the bottom pic has the early Mk II rear mounted sight but has the later style EAL 5 round mag)

Just a note for you EAL lee endfield nuts, the ones with the 2 hole side bracket & base were made in Austrailia, my grandfathers gun was obtained from a customer who didn't have enough money to pay his cab fair from Geralton ON, to Thunder Bay(Port Arthor) Ontario(1946-51 period), so he took the guys 303 rifle!! It came with this side mount and a crappy 4x32 tasco. I was always wondering who made these mounts and if they were factory or just available during that period? So one day a friend gave me an 1967 Ellwood Epps cataloge and on page 59 there it sat!!! I will print the description (Lee Enfield Scope Mount. Imported from Austrailia. Complete with universal rings for 1" and 26mm scopes. $13.95) I don't know if these were factory or a hole lot of them were done by a distributer, but I call this mount period correct!
