Hi i have a lee enfield mk 3, and i have done some reading but still have questions. My enfield was made in Lithgow, it has austrian markings (broad arrow and aussy star the an A) the Barrel has a HV ( high velocity stamP) all matching serials

QUESTIONS!

1-i have a factory stamp from Lithgow and its dated 1920 but from reading lithgow only made these untill 1919 and again in 1922. so why one year after they stopped makng them?

2- on reciever i have a number 4

3- why uner each aussy stamp is there roman numerals plus some of them are different numerals

4- the bolt has an M stamp

5-reciever and barrel both have a stamp with a shield and in side says AC
P

MY BIGGEST QUESTION

a stamp on the barrel shows a heart with a P inside

answers? i need an expert

I am far from an expert, but from my sources:

1- Lithgow made the No.1 into the late 40's, I have one from 1944
2- no clue, anyhring around it?
3- Newer Lithgow inspection markings, mine are covered in them
4- the "M" means "different is specification" both my No.1's are M marked bolt heads.
5- Is their a "P" under the "AC"? If their is, it could be an early Lithgow Inspection, What year is it? if its an early made one it could have gone through refurbishment, thus having both the old, and new inspection markings.
6 The heart with a P means "parallel bore", I do not know what that means.

All the info I got from this site:

enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/main.htm

Lots of info on all of the enfield models.

Ya got pics of the rifle?

Lithgow MkIII/III* 1913-1918, MkIII 1919-1939, MkIII/III* 1940-1945, MkIII* 1946-1953

The shield ACP is a proof mark. The A with Roman numerals are inspector markings. M on the bolt is a metal composition marking. P inside a heart means parallel bore.

the rifle was made in 1920, and i thought lithgow didnt make them then, but anyway awesome job thanks for all your answers to my questions guys.
