OMG how do you decipher all the markings on an Enfield?? I found 2 for sale and the guy says they are both Mark I's. TO get the bolt out you need to depress a little notch down and then pull the bolt out and rotate the locking lug of the bolt from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock and then it come out on both of them. One seems to have a rougher spiral machine mark on the majority of the barrel and seems to be thicker then the other. The one with the thinner looking barrel is also moarked SMLE behind the trigger group ont he right side but the other gun does not. Also one has the flip up long range sight at the breech and the other gun has the sight folded down at the back of the bolt neatly tucked inside the back of the receiver.

My questions are what are these, what kind of values do they carry if any?

Also he had a P14 there with a dry crack in the stock at the base of the trigger group. When I pulled on the stock really hard the crack does open slightly but I think it is more of a dry crack then abuse as the rest of the stock is really overall good shape and has a nice huge cheek rest.

Does this P14 carry any kind of value as well? Is this sort of crack common as he said it is being a walnut stock?

Any help guys would really help as I think the enfields are under priced and maybe the P14 is but I know nothing at all about p14's.

The "SMLE" is very likely a Lee Enfield No1Mk3*. The other Lee Enfield, with the rear sight at the back of the action, is probably a No4Mk1.

As far as market value goes, mostly depends on: are they in their original military configuration (handguards on top of the barrel and frend extends all the way to the muzzle, or near), or sporterized (handguards removed, forend cut half-way)?

Typically, a sporterized Lee Enfield (or the Enfield P14 for that matter) would cost, say, from $75 to $200. I know that's quite a range. $75 would be a beater Lee Enfield missing its mag. A $200 would be, for example, a tasteful, nice looking sporter. Maybe with a scope mount.

A shot-out barrel would mean it's a parts gun worth... well not a whole lot, considering a shooter missing a mag is already not the most expensive rifle :)

Thanks for the reply!!!!! the p14 is in overall very good shape, all 3 guns come with mags, the one enfield though with the heavier barrel intrigues me, it is the one with the rear peep sight in the action. The enfields are priced at 150 a piece and the P14 he wants 300 . Just want to make sure that what I think is a fair price for these guns really is since I am not really in the know about these firearms.

Still I wouldn't pay more than $150, maybe $175 for a sporterized P14... They can be seen being offered at less than $200. $300 (and up) is more in the range of a complete P14.
