Should there be a metal spacer on the king screw between the trigger guard and the receiver ? What if there is none ? Is the king screw all that is needed ?
A lot of sported rifles had them removed - in order to provide some forend pressure. In a full military LE, they are beneficial if sized right. However, the rifle will still shoot without - with the understanding that the rifle is sensitive to foreend screw tension.
Spacer definitely required. It will lead to overtightening of the king screw. This will most likely affect accuray; trigger pull weight and stock damage. It's a low cost part.....recommend getting it fixed.

There also needs to be the lockwasher under the king screw head. These are often missing...the whole system requires all the parts be there to be right.
The spacer needs to be precisely the right length too, and every rifle seems to be a bit different.
