Enfield mag swapping?

No.4 and No.5 magazines are interchangeable. A No.1 Mk.III mag might fit a No. 4 or No. 5 but it won't work well in most of them.

As has been said before no1 and no4 mags aren't interchangeable due to a difference in the spine of the mag then each mag was individually fitted to its respective rifle by tuning the feed lips to get it working just right.

At one time, it was real common to file the extra lumps off the lower part of the rear of the No.1 mag so that it looked and worked just fine in a No. 4. I have never tried to get a No. 4 10 shot mag to work in a No. 1

A No. 1 Mk. III mag has two locking lugs on the back. A No. 4's has one. They are not interchangeable as issued.
No. 1 mags can be made to fit a No. 4 by grinding the lower lug off. Kind of expensive thing thing to do these days.
A No. 5 Rifle is just a modified No. 4. Same mag.

Like I said, you can and I have used a No4 magazine in a No1Mk3, but you can't use a no1 in a no4/5. They are not REVERSE interchangeable.
