I've got a 1918 dated no1mk3 and I'm trying to figure out what some of the markings mean.

The first one is "BSAC 2". Obviously the BSAC stands for Birmingham Small Arms Company, but what's the "2" for?

Second is the * after the III.The III is pretty straight forward, but how about the "*"?

Any info would be great

I tried to get some pictures, but my skills with a camera are lacking :(

Are you sure it is not BSA Co which stands for Birmingham Small Arms Company?

The * after the III indicates it is a Mk III*, which is a modification of the Mk III introduced in 1916. Amongst other changes, the magazine cutoff and long range sights were omitted on the Mk III*

Now that i look close it is "BSACo", but the "o" is superscript and there is a little line under it. Making it look like a 2

BSA Co. was the first (in 1915) of the No 1 manufacturers to start the Mk III* variation, simplified production by reducing maching operations for deleting the mag cutoff, volley sights. Less machining and parts equaled faster production.

Does it look like this?

If so I believe if I'm not mistaken and I often am. That is a Commercial rifle.
