Well here's a little project I've been work on lately. I bought set of rifles with the intent to restore one. Well i thought this one deserved some loving too. My goal no permanent changes to the rifle itself!
He's the rifle as I bought it, missing the rear sight and charging bridge. The good news the bolt, barrel and receiver match.
Now as it sits today, now it's still a work in progress.
Ok now for some info, thus far I've bedded the rifle into a No4 stock, it went relatively easy (with one slip up/trip to the hospital) the stock I Bought local for $5 it's a British SM marked, with a longbranch serial stamped in and a ishy screw. The screw hole has been plugged and repaired. The stock has been stained and waiting linseed oil.
Now the handgaurds I also found locally, both were split from end to end, I glued them back together. The front handgaurd may not work as it as been sanded too much by the middle band.
The rear handgaurd I drilled, cut, sanded and rasped the wood into it current form, If this project turns out well I may replace the handgaurd with an uncracked one.
The charging bridge is temporally held in place with hand rivets, until I move into my new home and can properly and perminately attach it.
Now this is where I need some assitance, I dont know what to do with the front sight. I want something that will not permantly modify the rifle. I'm hoping to put a no4 front sight gaurd, but not sure how too. Suggestions?
Now for some gore!
When using a chisel I'm normally quite paranoid about my hand placement, but it slipped my mind in this case, word of advice watch your hands!
