got a bubbad enfield for free, the stock was really bad but after and hour of steaming dents i refinished it and it looks great. Now the problem... it had a scope mount on it and when i took it off to put a new rear sight assembly on it(which im looking to buy if you have a spare) i realized bubba had taken a grinder to "sides" of where the front of the sight lays(excuse my ignorance)

so what do I do here, will it still work or should i weld some on then fit and reblue?

Can't really tell why any of the Mark 1, 2 or 3 military rear sights would not install and function properly?? So far as I understand the military rear sight alignment is all based off the hinge pin across the rear sight ears - the charger bridge has no function related to the sights...

Barrel cut, drilled and tapped for a scope, and this butchering? What was that about 3 strikes???

Hmmm...there are so many of these rifles with untouched receivers and uncut barrels...maybe best to spend your efforts on another one and sell this one to a hunter?

To me it looks like that area was filled in to accommodate the hole for the scope mount.

just took a picture from my No 4, and you are right.

will be best kept with that scope mount, and as somebody suggested already, sold to a hunter.

Rebelson..can you measure the charger clip width on each side. Your picture looks like the area behind the bridge has been filled in to support the single hole that was drilled and tapped for the scope mount. If so was it welded? brazed? soft soldered? Could be repaired for the original Mk1 sight. Ron
