I have a 1/45 Faz No 5 that is still in full military config. It has mismatched bolt and mag #'s but it is in decent shape. My only complaint with it is the bore. It has a fair amount of pitting and after testing it's accuracy I have decided that I will keep my doors open for a replacement barrel. I am planning on using this gun for hunting Moose and deer so I am not too worried about a mismatched barrel.

My question is does anyone know where I could find a No. 5 barrel in good shape in southern Ontario. I was also wondering if a No.4 barrel could be cut down and fitted with my no.5's flash cone. I would of course keep the No.5 Barrel for nostalgic purposes.

If this proves too difficult or expensive I may just buy a No.4 to use as my moose gun and save the No.5 for a rainy day.

Thanks in advance,

A No.4 barrel will fit the receiver. If you want to cut it down (to 18.7") and install the flash hider you'll need to drill two small slots in the outside of the barrel for the front sight/flash hider assembly pins and you'll also need to reduce the outside diameter of the barrel a tiny bit where the front sight/flash hider assembly fits as the barrel is a bit thicker there than at the end (the piece you've cut off).

You can probably find a No.4 barrel that's already been shortened for about $20 as there's no collector value in one already cut down.

good luck with your project. Let us know how it turns out :)
