So - very new to the SMLE world having just picked up my first (1916 BSA No1 Mk3). The gun has been sporterized and no I know it shoots really well, I intend to bring it back to it's original glory. Question is, even tho it shoots great, the ejecting doesn't feel like it's functioning as well as it should. With the mag full the cartridges mostly get chucked out fine, but when I am down to 1 or 2 in the mag, the spend cartridge just kind of bobbles around and doesn't fly like I would expect.

Is this normal, or should I be looking at a new extractor or extractor and spring? Any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers.

Operate the bolt briskly with a bit more force. Also, clean out the extractor groove. The SMLE extractor pushes the empty case to the left side wall, and when the bolt comes back the back of the rim hits a small screw on the left side wall, kicking out the empty. It is also possible this ejector screw is a bit worn.

The ejector screw is only for ejecting a loaded round, a fired round is to eject long before it reaches the ejector screw. As stated above the force of the extractor pushing the case to the left and the rim rubbing along the receiver wall causes the case to flip and be flung from the rifle as the mouth of the case clears the chamber.
