Hi guys,

Recently purchased a sporterised "Mk1" but when it arrived it actually turned out to be a Mk1/3 with the boss brazed onto the action body to suspend the trigger. I have an unissued Mk1 stock standing by for the project, but it looks to me like Ill have to cut through that metal bracket at the rear of the stock, and probably carve out some wood.

Before I go cutting away at a mint stock I was wondering if anyone has fitted a Mk1 stock to a Mk1/3 rifle. Any useful tips? was it more trouble than it was worth?

Thanks in advance gentleman!

To do it correctly involves filling in the side areas where the band was riveted with wood, then sand to shape. After the rest of the fitting, then a hole needs to be drilled for the screw that goes through the rear of the stock (roughly where the band rivets were). A threaded escutcheon retains the screw and holds both sides of the stock together. It is a lot of work. Plus you would need to find the correct screw and escutcheon. You might want to save the stock for a No4 Mk1 instead.

Boyd's ships wooden stocks to Canada all the time, including sporter stocks for Lee Enfields, but there might be a regulation about exporting genuine ones because they are parts of a military rifle. Worth looking up before putting them at risk.
