Remington did a good job of altering their P17s, as they changed them to the Model 30 Express.
They changed it to the bolt cocking on the upstroke, as well as drilling and tappping it to take the Lyman #48 aperature sight, and a good front sight.
However, they used the same stock, just reworking it a bit. The result is virtually no comb and one must be carefull in shooting it, or a wrapped around thumb on the stock may result in a bloody nose!
One of these rifles has been a hand me down in the family since coming from the USA in 1929, and is now in my locker.
