My 1942 Lithgow No1 MkIII* is I guess failrly typical but I dont know what this cut-out over the bolt is meant to house? Anyone have any ideas? Can you point me to a picture of what it looks like in use?

My guess it is where the stripper clip fits but as I don't have any I don't know for sure.

"...I don't have any..." Gunparts. $1.45US each. Listed under SMLE, No.1 MkIII, Accessories. Part #492960. Marstar lists 'em at $1.95 each. You don't really need 'em unless you plan on shooting matches. There's usually a rapid fire.
The rust will come off with oil and 0000 steel wool. Won't bother the existing finish.

Numruch $1 each if you buy 10 or more but...

I got my chargers off Ebay, guy outta Australia sells them in packs of 10, 20, 30 and 50. All are new and in good shape. I only had one that was a little coarse and did not feed right, but I never have enough ammo to fill all of the anyways.
