I have a p. 1914 enfield that obv is 5 shot but is it possible to make it a 10 shot? I am thinking if I cut the bottom of the mag well out and weld on a 10 shot from a SMLE or something simular. Anyone ever done this? Thanks[/QUOTE

Hey guys I have an 1886 Winchester takedown in 45-70.How would I go about welding a bren gun mag on it to get rid of the tube feed system?
Just bring it by my place, I can take off the tube and weld on the new mag.......no guarantees anything will work after though.
A decent question that has been answered. A better place to pose it would have been "Gunsmithing" to avoid the inevitable "please don'ts". You'd still get a few "why bothers", but less flack. I wouldn't do it myself (I have three sporterized P14's), but it would be interesting to see the creativity someone else might apply to a challenging mod.
How far is it sportered? Is the barrel cut? reveiver milled? If its just a simple backyard Bubba hacksaw stock job then its far from beyond restoration. If you do like gun building, I think you would like restoring it.
If the barrel is cut, and/or reciever screwed, then Their is no real damage in making it into soething you like. But if its only a stock chop job then, leave it be, restore it and give your freind a peice of history for his first rifle. But if you still insist, all I can say is

The thing is LONG gone sadly...I like many others would perfer a stock one or store it to that condition if possible but the reciever is messed, holes drilled and tapped, barrel cut, irons removed, ect.....so I am gonna build him a "custom" frankenstine .303

well, get some tin, and fold up your own mag then. bolt action isnt limited to the amount of rounds, so you could make as big a mag as you wanted, so long as its not an adapted mag from something else, such as the BAR mag, which would then have to be linited to 5 rounds

I dont think that a No4 mag will work with a P-14 follower of vice-versa.
you might want to look at a M-14 type mag for the spring.
making it a detachable mag, that is more then I even want to think about, makes my head hurt.
