Does it matter how the rounds stack up in the stripper clips? I have just clipped a bunch of ammo and was wondering if I am going to run into a problem once I start charging the magazine.

yes there is a right way and a wrong way.
you need to make sure that the first third and fifth round is all the way back
against the stripper
the other two should rest on the rims of the other ones
like this _-_-_ with rounds pointing up
this is from my father who was trained in the 50-60s with the #4.

I have always stacked the rims onto the next round.

/ ...but it only works one way (top bullet flat).
I think I'll try it your way.

Say fellas, where can a person find Enfield stipper clips nowdays, and how much are they worth?
For that matter, can they be duplicated without too much difficulty? In metal, of course, plastic sux :)

Almost forgot... are they universal for the Enfields, or are there different versions for different models?

I bought a bunch a few weeks back at the local Gun show -used-, then on the same day bought a big bag of brand new ones from Pullens in Victoria BC.

My P14 Loves them.

Another thing to look for while at gun shows, or Army surplus places is any old cloth bandoleers that they used to come in. They should hold 2 full stripper clips each pocket. They will usually be clearly marked as .303...Very handy. :)

I bought a bandoleer of greek 70's .303 at a gunshow a while back. Managed to comfortably cram 3 strippers into each pocket. All it took was a little baby oil :)

That Greek stuff (headstamp HXP, made in late 60s early 70s) is great ammo. I bought a crate of 700 or 800 (I forget exactly) about ten years ago. If I knew at the time how good it was, and how hard it would be to get any decent 303 now, I would have picked up a ton of it!

By "stripper clips", I assume that you mean "magazine chargers"?

:p

Sorry - The Brit in me rebels at 'Merican terminology applied to the great Commonwealth tool of freedom (and Imperialism).... Especially when it holds two more rounds than that gas-farting "finest battle implement ever designed".

(Hiding in hole, under the SKOP kit, waiting for incoming rounds...!)

I take it you are refering to one of the best and also most famous Bolt Action Rifles in Military History - "The Lee Enfield" , i like your style , had a hell of a good laugh , when you compared it to the Garand, i feel very sorry for U.S. troops who were issued the 1903 Springfield, very poor sights , no protection at all,no sight guard on either front or rear sight, better not drop it or you will lose your zero!! compared to the Lee Enfields sights, which are very well protected, also only 5rds as compared to our 10 rd No.1 smle or the No.4. The Yanks would have been much better served with the Model 1917 Enfield, very tough weapon with excellent sight protection. Sorry for the long post but got carried away

:D :D :D You can't blame Patton for being patriotic :p

pfosted, thank you so much for your great explanation of how to load the .303 stripper clips. I always been wondering why, I once in a while would have a serious jam when "feeding" my several .303, Lee-Enfield's using stripper clips.
