Enfield Tanker inflation

I had a few of those old Enfield tankers....but I fell in love with the S&W 1905 4th change models so they went to new homes. That being said, I have to laugh when I see the really beat up ones with a score around the cylinder that you could almost fall in, for $300+ asking price.

whats a tanker? ....i have a 1933 enfield revolver, paid $250 its cool cause its old and ugly! i am happy

Don't know. That's why I was wondering if there was a picture available. I've acquired an old 455 Webley, that;) looks like it's 'built like a tank':p. I don't think that's what is ment by the name tanker given to that Enfield.

A "tanker" is an Enfield revolver with the hammer spur was removed which was how they were modded during the war, nothing to do with tanks but the "lore" was the hammer spur was removed to prevent snagging on a tankers clothes in the turret.

Just like the Jungle Carbine, just an incorrect buzzword.

Enfield/Albion/HAC made .38 S&W WW11 revolver. No hammer spur/single action. hammer spur removed so as to not snag on "tank" structure when climbing in and out.

Here's a couple Enfields that went to new homes.

i think they got the contract, cause it had less recoil than the .455, thinking being, more bullets on target...probably just a bigger kickback, lol!
neat looking pistol, looks like the frame and barrel were stamped from a sheet of steel!

Thanks, much appreciated. They look like 'relatives' of my Webley:p.

They are, basically. It was decided after WWI that the Mk.VI Webley in .455Webley calibre was too big for too many people to handle well, so it should be replaced with a smaller handgun in a smaller calibre. Webley was asked to submit a design, which they did. The government then got the Enfield arsenal to produce a revolver they claimed was their own design but it is so similar that when Webley sued for infringement the courts ordered they be paid some compensation. And Webley (and Albion Motors) got contracts to produce some for the war.
