Enfield versus Lee Enfield

Don't forget the Enfield No 8 22 training rifle. It is not a Lee Enfield, because it is a single-shot without a Lee magazine, but it does have a two-piece stock and some interchangeable parts with the No 4 LE.

Hi Pot. Before the first great war there was the Enfield Autocar Co. that made 4 speed cars that sold for 350 GBP each.
I wonder if any of those ever survived? JOHN

There was also an almost-never-ending line of ROYAL ENFIELD motorcycles. No relation, but they were handmade in small batches and WENT like STINK! They are currently being produced in India.

As to rifles, when I visited the place, they let me play with the ENFIELD rifle X-70 in 4.85mm. Lovely little toy. I di have a cartridge around here which was sent to me by the late Maj. Peter Labbett. And they showed me the OTHER SMLE Mark 1* with the tapered-bore barrel.....

Enfield was the company and used the name on a lot of different things.

James Paris Lee designed the rifle and magazines. Enfield, Metford were the types of rifling used in the barrels on the Lee type rifles.
