I checked out a bunch of gun's that a co-worker's step dad owned (past away) and I'm interested maybe. There was a #5 MKI rof, #4MK2(f), 1 built by Globes firearms limited model 200 in 303 and 2 more I didn't write down. Being a nu-bee when it comes to enfields I didn't write down serials # or dates but now that I've checking them out on here I'm really interested. They are in basement of an old farm house and not the prettiest looking but I believe that they look complete. There is a bit of ammo as well so I was thinking of offering $250-$300 for all 4 or 5 guns am I out to lunch?

The No5 is worth more than you are offering for the lot, assuming it's in good condition.
The No4Mk2 ? Well it's worth MORE than the No5.
Basicaly you are WAY, WAY, low on your offer.

Assuming they are in good condition and in moderately decent condition (IE no major rust, decent bores) then you are looking at around 300 for the No.5 Mk1, 400 or so for the No.4 Mk2, around 50-75 for the globe firearms (Its a commercial sporter) and depending on what the other two are, beetween 50 and 300 each. So ya, your a little low.

It would also help to post pictures of the guns, then we can really tell you an approximate value, but without pics the above prices are my estimate.

I think they would be happy with that offer his mother wants them out of the house as they are really not stored properly. The gun's really are not in the best of shape (rusty) but complete. he also had 20 or so .22 and bunch shotguns but everything is rusty from the basement.

Well then you just got yourself a hell of a deal. You said he also had 20 or so .22 rifles? Have a look at them as well, their are some Military trainers in .22 and are worth a little as well.

Light surface rust cleans off very well with a bit of FINE or EXTRA-FINE grade steel wool. You then oil the surface to keep future rust away.

A deal is a deal and all that, but you should try to be just a LITTLE bit fair to these people. That is something that you aren't being, right now.
.

Well sounds from his post the family wants to get rid of them anyways, so they'd toss them for free. He is new and doesn't know the condition and who knows how much the rust has bitten into them. In addition he needs to spend his time cleaning them and working on them which can be a large effort. If I read that right as in 20 pieces of .22 / Shotguns....offer the family $1000 bucks for the entire lot of firearms and ammo and now you have a cheap hobby to keep yourself busy as you pick through it all, clean up what you can, and toss what you can't use.

Better then it going to the feds and the garbage as the family may not want to bother with the trouble of selling otherwise.

Agreed!! Much better than going to the Feds firearm chopper machine.

Be honest with the family, tell them they could be worth more, but you can only pay $$$ dollars for them; However you will take them all so they don't have to worry about them anymore.

It would make a great hobby and imagine how much you will learn about firearms as you strip them down and put them back together...

I'm getting sweaty thinking about it... whew!

Low ball the owners and walk away with a big smile on your face knowing that you saved these weapons from a date with the smelter. The other option is they turn them in to the police and they get smelted anyways. At least you offer them some money for them.
