Hi all Picked up a nice wood set for an SMLE.The lower handguard has a gap near the butt socket and doesnt fit/Wont work on my BSA.Are the Ishapore stocks different than british SMLEs??I can send pics to an email or phone.Dave

The whole gun is different
That's why the American's give the Indian
7.62 it's own parts section

Ummm NO.

That only includes the Indian 2A and 2A1 7.62x51 rifles.

Depending on year of manufacture, most of the Indian No1 MkIII type rifles were built under British supervision. There are variants of course, such as the smooth bore chambered for a shotgun cartridge similar to the .410 ga. Most of the parts on those rifles will readily interchange with the British built rifles.

The later versions of the Indian SMLE’s were produced on the last of the British manufactured equipment. The 2A and 2A1 were on different equipment

There are some minor, and a few not-so-minor, differences but I'm not sure what you mean by "The lower handguard has a gap near the butt socket". Maybe you mean a difference in the back face of the forend, where a typical early british pattern forend has an inletted "key" in which the square tip of the buttstock bolt protrudes, as opposed to the later, Indian pattern forend which did away with that stuff. Feel free to reach out to me and send me pictures!

If it's a Mk111 series rifle , the parts are interchangeable.
Tons of BSA rifles were repaired ( since WW1 ) by the
Ishapore factory using mixed parts , including Lithgow .
Something is obviously wrong with the fitting of your rifle but I need to see it... email away .
