engraving?

Someone here had a friend that supposedly did slides but I sent him a request twice and no reply so I am looking also! Nice diagram by the way!

A while back, while discussing some particularly poorly chosen dime-store scratch pantograph engraving on a rebuilt firearm, I pounded "hand engravers Canada" into Google, and came up with a whole bunch of sites of Canadian artists.

As with anything of this sort, skill levels vary, as do prices. Then you need to find someone that will touch gun parts. Be aware that other than the frame (with serial number) and the barrels of 12-6 class pistols (a prohibited device), there should be no legal issues with them having possession of the parts. But you should know by now that there are folks with their own opinions about such, and they can refuse, easily enough.

Surprisingly, or maybe not, there were quite a few pictures of guns and gun parts in the various galleries on the sites.

Worth doing some looking around at the options. I think that would make for a pretty cool present.

Cheers

You need to find someone who is licenced to touch gun parts but it is the registered bit only. Slides don't count. Think fairly big bucks for that kind of work and lots of time your brother will not have his pistol.

There are a number of good Canadian gun engravers around, the best thing is to check their portfolios for quality, and talk to them clearly about what you want. As said before, it will take time (possibly a year or more) and money. Lots of money. Heavy carving, like the acanthus type scroll pattern you show, is a lot of work to do well, and will easily run you into thousands (possibly many...) of dollars.
Good luck, and good searching!
