Engraving

Has anyone had a pistol slide engraved? If so, where? I took the slide off my 1911 to key man engravables and the girl was worried that the steel might be too hard. Surprisingly she was very cool about it and she knew right away it was a gun part(the cops weren't even called).

Any ideas?

yes, i am having one done right now, however it is part of an overall custom built 1911 and cost of just the engraving may be prohibitive for the most.

Would a diamond tip do the job? Or should it be a laser?
