Enhancements for Norinco 1911C

if your going for production with a 1911 your already scewed.
if your planing on shooting standard, I would send it to armco and get him to smooth it out and drop the trigger to 3.5-4lbs.
and get bigger sites if you want.
other than that, there isnt much that you need.

Production Division is for double action and striker fired guns, 1911s need not apply.

For IPSC purposes, a reasonable trigger job is the main thing to go for, along with some ten round magazines so you can keep up with the other shooters. A holster that covers the trigger guard and some mag carriers is also needed.

After that:
Smith & Alexander mag well
Fibreoptic front sight
Adjustable rear sight
Beavertail grip safety, pinned off.
Ambi thumb safety
Full length tungsten guide rod.
Grip tape
etc, etc, etc.

Are there any companies that you recommend for sights? and what do you mean by the grip safety pinned off? I'm just getting into IPSC and shooting and don't know a whole lot about modifications and what not

And I meant Standard Division. My mistake

I'm affraid you are going to be throwing your money down the drain if you plan to do up a Norinco to compete in Standard.
My recommendation would be to look around here (in the exchange forum) for someone selling a 'standard' gun (maybe as a package?) for a reasonable sum, as it will hold its value better than the Norinco.

+2 on what beltfed said

mags 10 rds 35 each x 6 210
bomar sights installed 250
match trigger job 200
Magwell 30
extended mag release 30
beavertail installed 80
extended safety installed 50
extended slidestop 25
Grip tape 5
titanium firing pin 25
custom extractor 25
custom ejector 25
tungston guide rod 100

I can't thing of anything else that you might consider but for a 1050$ in modifications you will have a decent gun. The suggested retail for this super duper pistol after all mods would be around 600. And it really does not matter if it says norinco or colt or whatever. You never get your money back on the modifications.

I was pointing out the excessive costs you could run into trying to build a gun. I suggest you go with the trigger job and go out and play. If you get serious about competing and winning in IPSC, you will end up with a different gun sooner or later.

My Standard Division gun is a Bul M5 IPSC model, these are available from Marstar and I highly recommend them, the ones I've seen here in Australia have all been close to flawless, they come with race sights, magwell, safety catchs, mag release and guide rod already fitted.

The ultimate top of the range standard gun is the STI 2011, which will set you back more again. http://www.stiguns.com/guns/Edge/Edge.html These are available from Freedom Ventures. http://www.freedomventures.ca/sti2011.htm

Now assuming you still want to go with building your own gun, for sights either Bomar or LPA for a rear sight, Dawson Precision seems to be popular for a fibreoptic front sight. I'm not sure, but I believe you will have to have the slide machined to fit a new front sight.

Go with Brownells for parts, Freedom Ventures also stocks some parts: http://www.freedomventures.ca/gunparts.htm

I'm not a machinist, so I can't recommend your best course of action as far as modifying your gun.
