Hey everyone. So I have been reading into different calibers as I am in the market for a new light skinned animal hunting rifle (deer and anything smaller) and have decided that I want to go with the 6.5 creedmoor. While this rifle will be used for hunting I would like something that at the range will allow the round to do what it is known for doing, long range accuracy. I would like to be able to reach out and touch around the 500-700 yard range as long as I do my part. I do not want to break the bank either as I am not going to be entering into long range competitions so somewhere under $1500 for the rifle without glass. I love the idea of a semi but do not know how that would effect accuracy out at range. The options I was thinking are :
- Remmy 700
- savage 110 tactical
- BCL 102 re barrelled to 6.5

What do you all think? Other options I should be looking at? I do want it to be a detachable magazine and not a heavy pig of a bench gun. Any advise or insight would be great!

Ruger American comes immediately to mind, I know it would be on my short list but you didn't mention it. I can't really comment on your choices although the Remington 700 and Savage 10 series actions have always treated me well.

Browning xbolt hell's canyon speed.
22" barrel, ceracote.
6.3lbs factory, with muzzle break.
Mine shoots less than half moa at 100.
Ive taken two Deer well over 200lbs and a black bear pushing 350lbs with the 6.5 and none went more than 10 feet, with one of two bucks folding on the spot from a run, and the bear merely rolling down a hill after impact.

Savage 10 TR , rebarreled with a CFW barrel, From mystic.

Should be able to do it for $1500- $1600

The 10TR will reach out to 1km in factory ammo, just add glass.....but 308.

The 700 barrelled actions in 6.5cm are good. Was able to reach out to 1km with factory ammo with little difficulty. Got ine from Reliable Gun, threw it in a stock and glass and it was ready to go. Had to work a bit for ranges beyond 1km.

Used Savage 10TR ,$500.
I have a Savage prefit barrel, chambered for 6.5 CM. CFW $1050
I’m going to install the new barrel next week.

I’m into it for $1600.

Well a bit more because it’s in a cadex chassis.

There is a lovely Ruger M77 Hawkeye Predator in 6.5CM in the EE right now for under $1000, seller says never been fired. I have one and it is a good shooter, add some good glass and you are away to the races.

Thanks for all the reply’s so far, I now have to go and research all these new options. The reason some rifles were not on my short list is I tend to lean heavily towards the more tactical side of things so the options I originally posted were units I have come across in my travels and readings. That by no means I will only look at tactical stuff (up until now my main hunting rifle is a Tikka T3 light in stainless 7mm rem mag) so this is all very good information. The most important part is that the rifle is a good hunter but still a fun rifle to shoot for pleasure as well at the range

If you already have a 7mm and set up for loading, take a look at a Rem 700 Long Range in the same. With a good brake it feels like shooting a 243, BC is better then the 6.5's, and 1000m is peanuts to shoot it to.

Savage 10 TR dropped in a Cadex.
It’s getting a new 6.5 CM barrel soon.
That’s the thing I like about Savage( barrel swaps are easy).
It’s going on a bear hunt next week.

And you can add accessories as you see fit:)

And yes ,I have a 3/4 check riser.
