I walked into my local gun shop yesterday to buy some ammo on the way to the range and sitting on the counter were two Bergara HMR, one stock version and one sitting in an MDT chassis. I didn’t have a ton of time as the wife was waiting in the truck but I handled it a little bit. Fit and finish was really nice, action was smooth and it is a good looking rifle. I figured I may have to re think the Tikka after this (plus it was $100 cheaper then anywhere I have seen it) but then I picked it up. She is a heavy rifle, not compared to many match rifles of course, but something marketed as a “hunting match rifle” I would not want to carry it around for to long. I think it would be great if you drove to your blind or stand and set up for the day or were yote hunting so you set up on a hill over the field sort of thing but for spot and stalk hunting I think you would be cursing by the time the morning hunt was done with. I think it would be a beauty of a bench rifle though and if I had more money then I do I’m sure I would add one to the collection. Hopefully my local shop can get a Tikka CTR in so I can do a side by side on them to compare.
