So, I've always been interested in the run-and-gun type shoots (not sure what the correct term for it is, someone mind?)... I used to sit infront of the TV and watch American Shooter whenever it was on, and loved it. Now that I'm in my 20's, with a good steady job I've been thinking of getting into it. Especially since I just bought a 10/22 and am starting to really see how fun it could be.

My questions are: What is a decent entry level pistol for this type of shooting? How are .22LR's for it? Does anyone have a link or website I can go to to read up about this style shoot?

There's a 3 gun shoot here in Kamloops BC on the 19th that I'm going to go watch. Maybe I'll get some good info there? But I'm open to any info you guys have to offer! Thanks a ton!

That is actually a good idea.

If the March event is any indication there should be a good turn out.

I will be there and I willl be running my IPSC gear with some add-ons for rifle and shotgun gear. I believe at least one IDPA guy will be there so you talk to a few guys and see what people are running.

Just remember you need eye and ear protection.

If you want some direct contact info - and no-one else pipes up - PM me and I will help you out.

A .22 is not good for IPSC or IDPA. The minimum calibre for IPSC is 9mm.;)

IMHO As much as they used to suck and gotten bad reviews , Condor is actually coming out with some pretty solid stuff now , as long as your not looking for something that will survive Afghanistan or something .

I have a condor plate carrier , fits great , doesnt rub , solid stitching , breathable , havnt tried it in a 3 gun type thing cuz i dont have pouches for my ammunition .

I have a M&p .40 and LOVE it . Its like it was made for my hand , very controllable . and its my first handgun so we have a love connection lol.

I plan on eventually using an 870 and either a norc m4 or a CZ858. I would use my m14 but recoil is a pain and im still learning to control it , not to mention ammunition is expensive.

My advice , think about how often your going to use your gear and spend accordingly , im NOT going to afghanistan and dont need top of the line carrier systems or kevlar pouches etc .

I'd probably go shoot twice a month or so... I'm not looking for anything spectacular, and probably wont end up competing anyway. Just looking for something that would be fairly inexpensive to run, and is accurate and reliable enough I wouldn't be flinging lead into the backstop. If I enjoy it, then maybe I'll look into some beginner shoots or something.

Come see me on Sunday and I will give you a visual tour of the gear everyone is using.

I will be the especially handsome guy in the bright red shirt :)

Easier to show setups than expain them over the net.

These are what I'll be shooting on Sunday. I've got a Condor plate carrier on the way but it's not going to arrive before the match, so I'm just gonna jam mags into the pockets of my pants.

go to the shoot. You will see lots of different guns in IPSC shooting. See which which one you like. Speaking for myself is someone asked if they could hold my CZ at a shoot, I would let them at the safety area. I am pretty sure other shooters would do the same for a newbie.

"...pretty sure other shooters would do the same for a newbie..." Yep. Typical in any of the shooting games. Most shooters will bend over backwards to help a new shooter. Including letting you try their firearms.
"...probably wont end up competing anyway..." Yes, you will. Competitive shooting, of any kind, is great fun. You'll meet all kinds of great people too. Just remember that you're shooting against yourself when you're new. Where you place doesn't matter.
You may want to get into bullseye shooting first. Teaches you the breathing, sight picture and trigger control you need for any shooting.

Thanks for all of the tips, everyone!
Those are some nice looking pieces ya got there, Mercury. Looks almost like a suede handgrip on the Glock...? (Though I'm sure it isn't..)

I'll see you guys at the match tomorrow (hopefully).
