I'm considering getting into some distance shooting maybe even doing matches. Being that I a smaller guy I've been looking at rifles with adjustable LOP stocks. A couple of the rifles I'm looking at are the Remington 700 PCR and the Ruger Precision Rifle.

I have a length of pull between 12.5"-13.5" depending on the postion. I can shorten up the stock on the Ruger a bit more which would even make it comfortable for my son to shoot. But what is the general take on these rifles, good or not worth the money.

Also each of these come in .308 WIN or 6.5 Creedmoor I understand there's a ballistic advantage to the 6.5 but I'm not 100% on the general rules for most matches would I be screwing myself over by choosing one of these rifles in 6.5 that I would get bumped into a division where I'd be completely out gunned or does it not matter.

*I'll add that I didn't pick these for any tacticool reason, just the adjustment benefits me greatly.*

Rifles: Try them out, see what fits you best.

Calibre: If you are shooting inside 600m .308 is fine. Once you are competing past 600m, 6.5 will make a difference.

Any caliber other than .223 or .308 will take you out of the F/TR class and put you into the F/Open class. In either class you will be shooting against purpose built rifles. If you go to the DCRA web page there a match results from this years F Class championship. There is only about 4 points difference between F/TR and F/O over 7 matches from 700M-900M.

You may want to check out the ORA shooting disciplines, http://www.ontariorifleassociation.ca/node/11 and decide which type of target shooting you want to do?
Different rifle types/calibres for different disciplines.
Which province do you live in? That may determine which type of shooting is available for you?
After seeing what is available to you, and what you want to shoot, it will be easier to pick out a rifle best suited to do it.
