Entry level plinker for my guests, looking at a Savage Mark II, should I be though?

My guests would be shooting an old single shot, that they have to learn how to shoot properly.Nobody ever spoiled me with fine firearms, as a guest.

True enough. My first car I have ever driven in my life was an 1985 Dodge Aries K Car that my youth pastor lent me to use whenever. I was so happy to drive something, I didn't even care if it was entry level / low end, etc. My kids all learned on cheap air rifles before they gravitated to powder burners and even then it was the aforementioned Savage Mark II. There is something to be said about kids and guests learning fundamentals first.

There are days I long for the simplicity of that K-Car instead of all the modern electronics and doo hickeys in late model cars.

it really depends who your guests are?

If you want to get young people excited about shooting as a hobby not many of them will be over the moon with bolt action single. They will take 3 shots and go do something else. They will never get their PAL and then when they are old enough they will vote Liberal. Telling everyone how they once shot a blot action and that's all you ever NEED!

Or you can hand them something fun that puts a smile across their face. They will get hooked! They will get their PAL and they will vote to keep things as they are.

You call it spoiling them, I call it self preservation.

A Savage Mark 2 is a great little bolt gun, just happens to be the second most shot gun behind CZ in the rimfire PRS scene here in Canada... cheap and very accurate with good ammo.

From my personal experience with 2 different FV-SR models for the dollar value they shoot great with Lapua Center-X and SK Rifle Match.

Can't go wrong with the Mk II FV-SR units. My friend & I used these for lots of plinkin' and pest critter removal. Accurate little rifles that handle well & are easy on the wallet.

Scorpio EM322A, can be had for $170 on sale, based on an Austrian target action, basically a Norinco EM322 made today, pretty decent guns, accurate, well made, with irons and standard dovetail.

I forgot about those; accurate and functional. Nicely built as well. Ugly, but very functional stock as well. That one get's my vote.

I had one of those and liked the look fine, ergonomics were great. Even liked the sights. Wanted it for a cold weather plinker, once had a JW-15A (2 of them) I should have never sold. Anyhow, it was the most inaccurate 22 I ever owned, sold at a significant loss, divulged the accuracy problems, etc. I think the choice of the Savage is far better, Marlin, etc. Still want to like the Scorpion, looking at a CZ scout for the same job.

I bedded the action with JB Plastic; Eley sport in the same hole; iron sights or scope at 25 yards. MY Brno shoots the same, but with cheaper CCI STD ammo. A bunch of other guys have them too and all love the accuracy; I may buy another. Extra mags were cheap too.

Im averaging .75 to .8" 5 shot groups with my new savage fvsr at 50 paces. Took about 30 or 40 rounds to tighten the groups but its shooting as good as i can hold with a 4x scope. Its in a mdt chassis though. I did not shoot it before putting it in

Dont overthink this. Savage makes a quality gun. Go for it.

Also, Ive long held the belief that every gun owner should shoot a 22LR as often as possible. It helps with trigger control and shooting mechanics.
